We are all grappling with social media, but none more than journalists and politicians who can become completely consumed by it, and by the phenomenon of ‘Open Journalism’ or ‘Citizen Journalism’. Below is a link to a wonderful video by The Guardian in London attempting to explain this – a view from the Editor’s desk. For the politicians viewpoint, one of Kevin Rudd’s minders put it this way in The Australian Weekend Magazine (November 7-8, 2009): “The game has changed. There is not a media cycle anymore, there is a media cyclone. There is so much news out there that if you don’t maintain discipline, whatever you are trying to say gets scattered and atomised.”
